Named on the Greenlaw and Eccles Parish War Memorials in Berwickshire as:

GEORGE SOMERVILLE, R.N.
George Somerville – age 21 – Ordinary Seaman (J64190) Royal Navy.
George was a farmer at Elwart Law, Greenlaw, Berwickshire when he enlisted in December 1916. He served on the battleship HMS Dreadnought from March to September 1917 but he was discharged from the navy due to illness in October 1917 and died of tuberculosis in a nursing home in Edinburgh.

Born 1897 in Carstairs, Lanarkshire. Son of William Somerville and of Rachel Alston (Stewart) Somerville (who died in Eccles a week after her son's death) of Westertown, Carstairs and of Eccles Tofts, Eccles.
Died on 15 June 1918.
Burial place not known.

Named on the Eccles Parish War Memorial in Berwickshire as:

WILLIAM SOMERVILLE PTE. CANADIANS
William Somerville – age 31 – Private (892086) 8th Battalion, Canadian Infantry.
William was farming at Gladstone, Manitoba when he enlisted in the 190th (Winnipeg Rifles) Battalion in Winnipeg in March 1916. He was posted to the Battalion's Independent Forestry Company in February 1917 and sailed with the battalion from Halifax, Nova Scotia in May. He was transferred to the 18th Reserve Battalion in England in May 1918 and posted to the 8th Battalion in France in September but he was killed two weeks later.
Born 1887 in Carstairs, Lanarkshire. Son of William Somerville and of Rachel Alston (Stewart) Somerville (died June 1918) of Westertown, Carstairs and of Eccles Tofts, Eccles. Husband of Elsie Seddon (Palmer) Somerville of Elmwood, Winnipeg and of Molson, Manitoba who he married in December 1916 in Winnipeg.
Killed in Action on 29 September 1918 and buried in Sancourt British Cemetery, France.

The other WILLIAM SOMMERVILLE (note 2 "M"s) seems to be Private 18390, 2nd King's Own Scottish Borderers, killed 30 July 1916 on the Somme.
Born Lanark. Resident in Carstairs. Enlisted Carluke.

The three brothers are also named on the North Berwick War Memorial in East Lothian.
They were sons of the late Florence Catherine Mary (Herbert) Monteith (died 1900) and of the late Joseph Francis Stanislaus Robert von Stein Cameron Monteith of Carstairs, Lanarkshire and of North Berwick (died 1911). Joseph married Madeline Trevelyan in 1909 and in 1911 the family were living York Road, North Berwick.
