Mr and Mrs Todd had lost another son earlier in the war, although his name is not remembered here with the correct Unit. His name appears in the H.L.I. list, not in the Scottish Rifles in which he was commissioned.

The Daily Record and Mail, Wednesday, 27th September, 1916, page 4:- "Two Cambuslang officers have been killed in action, one being Lieut. Joseph Fleming, H.L.I., son of Mr and Mrs Robert Fleming, Cecilton, Stewarton Drive; and the other, Second-Lieut. William D. Todd, son of Mr and Mrs William D. Todd, The Firs. Lieut. Fleming who was only 21 years of age, won the John Clark Bursary in the Arts course at Glasgow University. Second-Lieut. Todd was 22 years old."

The Glasgow Herald, Tuesday, 26th September, 1916.
"CASUALTIES Notes on Officers
MR WILLIAM D. TODD, S.R. Mr and Mrs William D. Todd, The Firs, Cambuslang, have received intimation that their son, Second Lieutenant William D. Todd, jun., Scottish Rifles, has been killed in action. Lieutenant Todd joined the H.L.I. on the outbreak of the war and was in France for nine months, and, coming home, gained his commission in the Scottish Rifles in October of last year. He was 22 years of age, was educated at West Coats Higher Grade School, Cambuslang, and Allan Glen's, Glasgow. He was training for a chartered accountant, and was employed with Messrs. Mitchell and Findlay, St. Vincent Street, Glasgow, and later with Messrs. Graham and Co., Glasgow. Other three sons are in the army."

Headstone schedules record Mr. G. (sic) Todd, The Firs, Cambuslang, Glasgow.

1901 Census (transcription) lists the Todd family living at Cambuslang, Bothwell Park, Brownside Road and includes William D. Todd (6), born Glasgow. The list of children given (born Cambuslang) suggests the Todd family have lived in the Cambuslang area since 1896. Head of household William D. Todd (40), is a Hardware Merchant.

Mr JOSEPH FLEMING, H.L.I. Mr. and Mrs Robert Fleming who reside at Cecilton, Stewarton Drive, Cambuslang, have received intimation that their son Second Lieutenant Joeph Fleming, H.L.I. attached Northumberland Fusiliers, has been killed in action. Lieutenant Fleming was educated at Hutchesons' Boys' Grammar School, was dux medallist and first bursar. He entered Glasgow University, and in the Arts course won the John Clark Bursary. He was 21 years of age."

His name is also recorded on the War Memorial within Hutchesons' Grammar School, Glasgow.

William Connell was born on 5th May 1896 at 12 Hairst Street, Renfrew to parents David Connell and Jessie Connell ms Stevenson.
He enlisted with 7th Bn. Highland Light Infantry.
Service No. 1537
Died on 22 September 1915 at Gallipoli, aged 19 and is commemorated on Stone No. 174 at the Helles Memorial.
Son of Mrs. William Storrie (formerly Connell), of 8, Castle Chimmins Avenue, Lightburn, Cambuslang, and the late David Connell.
