"Private Thomas Lappin, 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, was killed in a bayonet charge on June 9. Private Lappin, who was 43 years of age, had considerable Army experience, having been 18 years in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers Militia. When the present war broke out he rejoined the Army in August, and was at the front in April. Private Lappin was employed as a miner in Newton No.1 Colliery, Cambuslang. He leaves a widow and nine of a family."
