Location: St Andrew's & St George's Church, George Street, Edinburgh
OS Ref: NT 254 741



St Andrew's merged with Queen Street Church between the wars and the St George's in 1964. These are the St Andrew's Church Great War plaques

Additional information: Son of Andrew Gray Muir (Writer to the Signet) and Mary Elizabeth Henderson or Muir, of 17, Grosvenor Crescent, Edinburgh.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: 1.
Memorial: PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL

H.M.S "Monmouth" was cruiser lost with all 628 hands at the Battle of Coronel.

This was the first man from the church to die

"In the naval action off the coat of Chile, on 1st November, George Watson Muir, naval cadet, H.M.S. Monmouth, aged 15, elder son of Andrew Gray Muir, Writer to the Signet, and Mrs Gray Muir, 17 Grosvenor Crescent, Edinburgh."
