The way these names are split into two tablets suggest that they were on either side of something in their original location.

St John's West Church was known as Leith St John's United Free Church until 1929.

In 1955 it merged with St John's East to form Leith St John's. In 1956 St John's was transported to Oxgangs on the South of the city.

In 1964 the Church was demolished. I presume when the church moved from Leith it was decided to leave the plaques in Leith because the congregation did not move, only the name.
