A very impressive statue on Prestonpans Memorial let down by pretty shoddy photography. Note the 1914 pattern leather equipment in the first image.

I will post images of the names when I have time. In the mean time please let me know if you want the names before I post them here.

WW1 Casualty P. Brackenridge is one of those whose name seems to suffer from several different spellings.
His age appears to vary between 38 and 45 from the war return to CWGC.
His birth certificate shows he was born in Drem, Athelstaneford on the 4th of September 1876 as Peter Brackenridge. Therefore his surname appears correctly spelled only upon the memorial. He was 38 years old when he died, so the war return age is correct.

John Gauson who appears on the memorials WW2 names is not on CWGC or SNWM.

He died at home in Prestonpans of some (unreadable) illness to the lungs and abdomen aged 35 in October of 1945. He is listed as a coal miner.

The estimated date of Private Salkeld's death is qute a long time. I wonder what the circumstances were?
He is one of 6 Argyll war burials in Lancheres churchyard, I imagine they were in retreat to Dunkirk when they died?

Ah good reading skills there ADP.

I wasn't sure on that but i think you've got it right.

I wonder why he was considered a war casualty by the community? Perhaps he's served earlier in the war? Obviously coal was needed for the war effort so he was doing his bit in that way.

Derek.
