Not listed on UKNIWM

Located in a field about half a mile west of Moniaive at OS Map Ref NX 772 911.

"In memory of the late Revd James Renwick
the last who suffered to death for attachment to the covenanted cause
of Christ in Scotland
Born near this spot 15th February 1662 and executed
at the Grassmarket Edinburgh 17th Feby 1688
The Righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance
Psal CX11.6
erected by subscription AD MDCCCXXVIII"

He was famously the last minister executed in the killing times although there were a few other believers who died in the following months. There are many websites with details about him that can be found via google.

Awesome stuff. Wikipedia states;

"In 1681, he saw several Covenanters martyred in Edinburgh, including Donald Cargill".

Was the plaque somewhere else originally - the date is 1828?

Ken,
thanks for pointing out my mistake - the monument was unveiled in
1828 as you state; and I should have said:-
on 29/5/1988 a 'special ceremony for a 300th anniversary tribute to James Renwwick''
Sorry about mistake.
