This memorial is situated inside the church at Mid Yell. The WW1 memorial is crisp and clear but the WW2 one is almost impossible to read even when close up and I wonder whether it was just ineptly carved or has been outside for a time.

On closure of St John's church, Mid Yell, this memorial was moved to the Methodist chapel in East Yell in 2019. Source - War Memorials Trust Bulletin Nov 2019.
The memorial was cleaned and inscriptions made more legible.

Paul,
Is there an image in the Bulletin, please?, for us to determine the dedication and the names. I have just checked and there is no image on War Memorials Online.
This will be the first of a number of relocations as the delayed Church of Scotland closure programme on Shetland gets underway.- the last that was heard 20 churches are to be closed.
I keep checking the Presbytery facebook page, but nothing much seems to be happening yet on the closure programme.
I raised the general issue of the closures with WMT over a year ago, but have had no feedback from them about where the memorials from the various churches are being relocated to, and am not sure whether no news actually does mean that there is nothing to report, currently. |
