Hi

If anyone is interested, and has access to Google Earth, these are the co-ordinates for the Highlander Memorial on Magersfontein Hill

S28° 58.099
E24° 41.980

Although the pic is not that good. The place to the left is the museum, and the whole area to the south of the hill is the Battlefield.

More info if required

Colyn,
I thought that it was only us in Scotland that had to suffer poor image quality but I was wrong Crying or Very sad

There is actually a direct link on Google Earth that takes you direct to the battle site:

Hi Derek

I didn't think anyone was reading this forum.

I wasn't aware of the site you noted, but I had a quick look. There is around 75% of the good stuff missing. For a nice image of the Burgher (Boer) Memorial at Magersfontein have a look at 28° 57.196S 24° 44.044E. There is actually one, non-Afrikaaner buried there. He was Magersfontein unknown Bugler, but was later identified as Drummer William MILNE of the Seaforth Highlanders.

I have piccies if anyone is interested.

Oh, I think we are reading it, it's just so new to some of us that we have nothing useful to contribute, but please keep posting.

If you go to the higher level (http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewforum.php?f=26) in this case, you can see the number of views against each post although no doubt the odd one or two are from the search engines doing their indexing thing.
