I can't find anything about war memorials in the West Dunbartonshire Council's website A-Z or by doing a search on their website. |

West Lothian Council doesn't list war memorials in its A-Z but it does list memorials and monuments which links to a page which has a paragraph about war memorials.

It's worth quoting..
War memorials
Almost every local town and village has its own war memorial, some of them very fine. The War Memorial Scotland (new window) website aims to record every memorial in Scotland, and includes a few local ones. West Lothian Local History Library in Blackburn holds a number of rolls of honour for both World Wars, and the local newspapers often printed obituaries of the fallen. You can search the local newspapers index (new window) by name.
The War memorial Scotland link takes you to this forum We've also got a link on the right hand side of the page. (We've also got 100% of West Lothian's memorials recorded on this forum)
The contact details are:
West Lothian Council Cemeteries Section,

Nothing on Shetland islands Council website's A-Z but doing a search on their webpages provides this information
http://www.shetland.gov.uk/burials/
Burials Grounds Service
Welcome to the Burial Grounds Services pages of the Infrastructure Services Department. These pages will provide information about the services that the Section provides and burial records.
As the burial Grounds Services Manager responsible for the Councils 64 Burial Grounds I look after the grave digging service and record keeping. I am also tasked with the maintainance of various memorials around the islands.

I have now put one post for each council on this thread. If anyone can help fill in quite a large number of gaps I will update the posts.
I am surprised at how many councils have no information about who is responsible for looking after the war memorials in their care.
From what has been posted so far responsibility falls to either a burials and registrars department or to the parks and maintenance department within a council so for the councils we don't have any information on yet it might not be a simple matter to find out who is responsible.
South Lanarkshire should once again be praised for the work they have done online and West Lothian should get a mention as well for having a link to this forum on their monuments and memorials webpage.
(It's off-topic but I was also surprised to see that most council search engines have been provided by Google)
