The Glasgow Herald, Thursday, 31st May, 1917. CASUALTIES. Notes on Officers. ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY.
"Mr. WILLIAM CURR HALLEY.- Died. Mr. Halley was the second son of Mr William Halley, partner in the firm of Thomas Curr and Co., Aberdeen Coffee Works. He was 22 years of age and prior to joining the forces was an apprentice civil engineer in Aberdeen. He had only been at the front a fortnight when he died of sickness."

Aberdeen Evening Express, Wednesday, 30th May, 1917, page 3:- ".... Prior to joining the colours he was an apprentice civil engineer with Messrs. Walker and Duncan, Golden Square, and was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School. He had only been at the front a fortnight last Saturday. His brother is at present training with a battery of the R.G.A. before proceeding to the front."

1901 census family living at 415, Great Western Road, Aberdeen. William C. Halley (6), Scholar, born Old Machar. His father, William Halley (39), is a Tea and Coffee Merchant born Old Rayne.

Gordon Highlanders Service:- Soldier Number: 1270, Rank: Lance Corporal, Corps: Gordon Highlanders.

WW1 Medal ticket:- Archive reference:- WO372/8.
