TPR. J. W. WRIGHT, F.V.P.E.
James William Wright – age 19 – Trooper (7963149) Royal Armoured Corps.
James and two other soldiers were killed during a training exercise at the Fighting Vehicle Proving Establishment at Farnborough, Aldershot, Hampshire.
Born 1923 in Morpeth, Northumberland. Son of William and Doris (McDonald) Wright of Albert Place, Galashiels.
Died on Service on 27 April 1943 and buried in Galashiels (Eastlands) Cemetery. (CWG)


SGT. J. HARVEY YOUNG, R.A.F.
Joseph Harvey Young – age 22 – Sergeant (1368840) 142 Squadron, Bomber Command, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Harvey was a well known local musician and was employed in the Galashiels branch of Boots the Chemist for two years before he enlisted. He was trained in Canada and was the pilot of a Wellington bomber which had taken off from RAF Grimsby on a mine-laying mission but the aircraft was lost without a trace.
Born 1920 in Walkerburn, Peeblesshire. Son of Samuel McDermid Young and of Christina Cunningham (Rae) Young of Kingsknowe Galashiels.
Missing in Action on 25 October 1942 and named on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.

I was given this back in the early 1980's by my Grandmother -
and this is the Postcard Photo of Private Walter Dickson
1st Bn London Scottish , who was killed on 7 April 1945 .
His service number was 1630480 and he was born and lived in Galashiels .
I also have a post-war photo of his grave in Italy , along with his Portrait Photo
shown here - it is marked at the back -' To Betty from Uncle Walter '
