ADAM THOMSON, RNR, T SECTION

Also named on the Cockenzie and Port Seaton War Memorial in East Lothian as:

ADAM THOMSON
Adam Thomson – age 36 – Deck Hand (6897DA) H.M. Drifter Taits, Royal Naval Reserve.
Adam was living at Middle Row, Footdee, Aberdeen with his wife and family when he enrolled in the RNR in May 1915. He served on the “Taits” which in early 1917 was part of a fleet of drifters laying and monitoring submarine nets in the Strait of Otranto in the Adriatic. The fleet was attacked by Austro-Hungarian naval forces which managed to sink 14 drifters and damage four more.
Born 1882 in Cockenzie, Tranent, Haddingtonshire as Adam Herkes Thomson.
Son of David and Marion Wishart (Herkes) Thomson of Cockenzie. Husband of Elspet (Jenkins) Thomson who he married in 1907 in Aberdeen.
From 1922 she became Mrs Alexander Macmillan of 14 Pocra Quay, Footdee.
Killed in Action/Lost at Sea on 15 May 1917 and named on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire.
