Thanks to Mrs Aase Goldsmith for photo.
The memorial gates were badly damaged by a car last year. They have been repaired and some sections have had gilt applied to them.

Driver Robert Paxton (MT) R.A.S.C.
Named on the Galashiels War Memorial in Selkirkshire as:
PTE. ROBERT G. PAXTON. Royal Army Service Corps
Robert George Paxton – age 31 – Private (M/341601) Motor Transport, Army Service Corps attached to the 317th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery.
Robert was a motor mechanic in charge of the garage at the Crown Hotel in Thornton, Fife when he enlisted in Kirkcaldy in the Autumn of 1917.
Robert died of influenza in the 11th General Hospital in Genoa.
Born 1887 in Direlton, East Lothian. Son of John and Agnes (Henderson) Paxton of Torwoodlee, Galashiels and of Crossflat, St. Boswells, Roxburghshire. Husband of Christina Robertson (Watt) Paxton of Torwoodlee who he married in 1913 in Alva, Clackmannanshire.
Died on Active Service on 1 November 1918 and buried in Staglieno Cemetery, Genoa, Italy. _________________ Ken |
