I take it the hill overlooks the old A9 Perth-Inverness Road?

Looking at one of the old photographs there seem to be no shrubs or trees on the hill. Compare it to this recent image from Google Maps Street View

http://g.co/maps/9qx3x

You can barely see the memorial, in fact if you didn't know it was there you'd be hard pressed to find it.

The position of this memorial would have been designed to let everyone passing through Dunkeld, Little Dunkeld and Birnam see it. Even folk using the train would have been able to see it.

Now it is hidden. Another memorial beside the same old road has suffered the same fate. Carrbridge's war memorial was once on a prime spot to be seen by passing travellers. Now both are hidden.

Should the trees be cut back here to make it more prominent again?

Adam,

I quite agree with you but I'm not sure how this could best be achieved. Actually, some trees directly in front of the memorial have been cut down as it WAS totally obscured but the ground just looks bare and unattractive now.

I'm sure there would be an outcry from the locals if the trees were chopped down despite the intended purpose.

There may be a talented someone who could achieve a balance between the trees & shrubbery and the memorial.

I think I posted previously that plans were afoot to erect a new memorial, in what form I know not, down from the hillock, possibly on the area of ground bounding the junction of A923 and Perth Road but this failed to materialise.
