I'm not sure if this memorial has had any restoration work done on it since the intial pictures were taken.

If not, then Treasurer Kelly (as mentioned in the report Delboy has found) and his successors have failed in their assurance that this memorial would be "cherished and preserved".

I checked out the memorial last year. Comparing the photos posted in 2007, it looks as though work has been done on restoring the lettering; the names are now generally legible. There is other maintenance and repair work that should really be done however. I sent a condition report to the WM Trust - their Conservation Officer has previously given the Council advice on this memorial and will write to them again asking whether they are planning further work.

My photos have been posted online by the Trust:

Ian

This may be a candidate for the new War memorial restoration fund.

Adam,

Yes I agree. Need to see how funding will work in practice - the Trust has asked for details.

I am pleased report that the Council arranged for repairs to this memorial in time for last year’s Remembrance Service. They are now just awaiting the better weather to be able to paint the railings according to correspondence from the WM Trust.

I visited the memorial recently and indeed it's looking much better.

Anne - I believe it is "Training Reserve" but I must admit that I've never understood why a man had a service number specifically for being in training unless, perhaps, it was a unit to provide men for any regiment???
