Paul/Jas,
The only query I would have with this man is that he has no middle name/initial recorded on either the memorial or the plaque, although I realise this may be a oversight, especially if he was a farm worker from outwith the village.
I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of this sooner or later ! |

I don't know whether this would account for the date of death discrepancy, but on quite a few occasions I've come across the date of burial or cremation being mixed up with the the actual date of death.
In William Mitchell's case, the dates are only a couple of dates apart - could this be the reason?
If you're looking for someone at any Cemetery Records Office, it's the date of Burial/Cremation they look up, not the date of death.

Apologies for the above photo which isn't great. Having looked through the post I thought no photo had been posted and that my photo was better than nothing but my computer finally decided to reveal Suzebain's pics after I'd posted my own poor effort. I need a new computer.

A snippet of information - as you'll see from my photos of the memorial, the trees are no longer there. The overgrown trees were felled a year or so ago and I believe the area is to be landscaped. The trees were planted by Capt George A C Moir's mother. |

Hi, I came across this forum through a search of my own ancestors. I am the direct great grandson of Sapper William Hay Mitchell as listed on the Methlick war memorial.
I would be interested in exchanging information about my Great Grandfather.
Best Regards
Stephen Mitchell |
