The People's Journal, Saturday, 15th September, 1917, page 8:-
"DUNDEE CASUALTIES Many Brave Soldiers Fall. Pte James Gow, Black Watch (killed), enlisted in the Transport section of the Black Watch upon the outbreak of war, and had been at the front for some time. Deceased was 33 years of age and prior to joining up was employed by Mr Alex M'Donald, farmer, Mains of Balgay, in whose service he had been for fully 11 years. He leaves a widow and three children who reside at 3, Hean's Lane."

House addresses in the following two newspaper reports are slightly different.

The People's Journal, Saturday, 15th September, 1917, page 8:-
"DUNDEE CASUALTIES Many Brave Soldiers Fall. Pte. Fred Forrester, Scottish Rifles (killed), was the second son of Mr and Mrs Jas. Forrester, 186 High Street, Lochee. He enlisted 18 months ago, and has been nine months in France. Before joining up he was in the employment of Mr R.B. Adamson, tea merchant, Dundee. His widow resides at Blackness Rd. An elder brother, Pte. Jas. Forrester, Black Watch Reservist, who was called up at mobilisation, and went out with the first Expeditionary Force, was killed in the retreat from Mons. A younger brother is Pte. Harry Forrester of the Royal Scots. He enlisted two years ago, and has been 18 months in France. He was wounded on 12th April last, and was home on leave quite recently, rejoining his regiment just the day previous to word being received of his brother's death. Mr Forrester also has two sons-in-law serving - Driver G. M'Lagan, A.S.C., who joined three years ago, and Pte. Edwin Small Royal Scots (Signalling Section), a master painter in the city."


Dundee Courier, Friday, 7th. September, 1917.
"Deaths. FORRESTER.- Killed in action, August 16th, 1917, Private Alfred Forrester, Scottish Rifles, beloved husband of Kate Kennedy, 253 Blackness Road, and third son of Mr and Mrs Forrester, 184 High Street, Lochee."

The People's Journal, Saturday, 15th September, 1917, page 8:-
"DUNDEE CASUALTIES Many Brave Soldiers Fall. Sapper Joseph Ireland, R.E. (killed), had his home at 54 Dallfield Walk. Deceased was a Reservist, and was called up to his regiment, the Dragoon Guards, at the outbreak of the war. He was transferred about two months ago to the R.E. He was home on furlough a fortnight ago. Previous to the war he was employed as a shunter at Dundee East Goods Station. Deceased, who was 36 years of age, leaves a widow and child."

Mr NOEL SUTHERLAND.-
Lieut. Noel Sutherland, who was 24 years of age, was the sixth son of the Rev. A.N. Sutherland, M'Cheyne Memorial Church, Dundee. He was a native of Rothesay and was attending the West of Scotland Agricultural College, Glasgow, when he enlisted in October, 1914. After receiving his commission he was posted to the Seaforth Highlanders."
