"Information was received in Ellon yesterday that Private George Watt, 1-5th Gordon Highlanders, son of Mr John Watt, shoemaker, the Square, Ellon, had been killed in action in France. Private Watt, who is the first Ellon man to be killed in the war, was struck by shrapnel and only survived for a short time. Before going on service Private Watt was an apprentice watchmaker in Ellon." |
