SS Gretavale was a British cargo steaming in Convoy SC-52 when she was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-202, about 250 miles NE of Belle Isle Strait. HMT ORFASY (T204) was a trawler used as a Mine Sweeper. During the night of the 21st October 1943, the Litiopa heard twice that depth charges were dropped by her sole escort, HMS ORFASY, but then a heavy explosion nearby shook the tanker. At 23.53 hours, the trawler had been hit by one torpedo from German submarine U-68, exploded and sank with all hands about 185 miles southeast of Freetown. The U-boat later sunk Litiopa with gunfire after missing with several torpedoes. (Source:www.wrecksite.eu)
