"Private Alexander Merry also belonged to Burnbank, where his parents reside at Woodview, High Blantyre Road. Early in the war he joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers, and left for France fully six years ago. His captain writes that he was killed in the fighting at Neuve Chapelle. He was only 18 years of age, and prior to enlisting was employed as a motor engineman at Clyde Colliery."

"Mr & Mrs James Smith, Olive Cottage, Burnbank, Hamilton, have been notified of the death of their son, Private Robert Smith (3416), C Company, 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders. He enlisted on September 1 and left for France on February 16. He took part in the Neuve Chapelle fight and had a narrow escape, a bullet passing through his knapsack. Later, while on observation duty, he was shot through the head by a sniper, and died two hours afterward."

"Official announcement is made of the death of Sergeant Thomas Findlay, 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry, who was killed at Neuve Chapelle, Sergeant Findlay was 23 years of age, and was one of three soldier sons of the late Sergeant James George Findlay, 1st H.L.I. and Mrs Findlay, 28 Lorne Street, Hamilton."

Not on the memorial or Glasgows Roll of Honour, though he resided in the town and is buried there.

(Glasgow Herald 19th April 1915)
"The remains of Private Patrick Duffy, 1st H.L.I., were interred at Hamilton on Friday with full military honours. Prior to enlisting in September he resided with his married sister, Mrs Murray, Gateside Street, Hamilton. Thirty Six years of age, Private Duffy at the close of 1913 had completed eight years in the Army and four in the Reserve. With the H.L.I. he served in Egypt, India and South Africa. In Spetember he re-enlisted in his old regiment, and took part in most of the stern engagements up to and including Neuve Chapelle. He escaped injury in all these conflicts, but was invalided home through illness, to which he succumbed in a Suffolk hospital."
