Interred at Harlebeke New British Cemetery and their son Robert John died 01/04/1965 aged 67, also his wife Agnes Eddie Rankin died 27/07/1986 aged 82.

According to his service records his family were issued with the Victory and British Medals.

Information from family gravestone in Bervie Cemetery.
In loving memory of John Elliot, retired Stationmaster who died 23/08/1924 aged 78, also his son John Lindsay, Gunner RFA lost at sea through enemy action 31/12/1917 aged 27. Also his daughter Margaret Jane beloved wife of William Rennie died 01/04/1934 and of his wife Margaret Lindsay who died 16/07/1950 aged 94.

According to his service record he was drowned. His family were issued with the 15 Star, Victory and British Medals. It would appear that his Star was returned on 18/10/1920, but reissued on 27/04/1921. He first served in France, entering the war on 09/11/1915. No mention on service card when he was posted to Egypt, but then again that might have been why he was on a ship and drowned.
