According to his service record he was a Captain in the Indian Army. His family received the Victory and British medals from the Indian Government. However there was no mention (that I could see) of his Military Cross.
His name can also be found on the school memorial at Mackie Academy, Stonehaven.

Also his son Cpl William Boath RGA, accidentally killed in Macedonia 07/10/1917 aged 27, also his spouse Clementina Watt who died 03/03/1931 aged 70 years.
