As we use photobucket etc. are we going to post photos of individual headstones or names on memorials under each civic or others, so that people who have never seen a relatives headstone can come on here and find it.

There have been discussions on this before and the 'accepted practice' is to post photos of headstones only against existing memorials to add to the information for the memorial. Headstones are not posted in their own right so if you have a photo of a headstone but no memorial to post it against, it stays off. The British War Memorial Project should be THE place to go for photos of headstones.

Am I reading you correctly here Paul. As you are aware I am researching Kilbirnie war memorial and have the headstone or the name carved on the memorial stones to many, many fallen. Kilbirnie is listed on the site, are you saying I can post 100 plus graves/memorials on the forum via photobucket

I'm saying no, you can't post 100 grave photographs.
This has been discussed before and the decision was that grave pictures are for the British War Grave Project. They're not for this site.
There have been exceptions, and I've seen a few grave photos apeparing here and there. Can we all keep this to an absolute minimum please?
In the case of the one I posted, I initially was unaware it was his actual grave, and I only posted as the village concerned has no civic war memorial.
So, in answer to you original question: no, we are not going to post grave photos on here for relatives to see them. That's being done by others. |

the British War Graves project has gone belly up David, maybe this site could take over from it giving Scots a chance to see a relatives grave. I know you have said no bit I thought I would bring the BWGP dilema to your attention just incase you have a change of heart and see a new opportunity to provide a further service to the excellent service you already provide.

We're aware that the British War Graves Project has gone "belly up" as you put it.
At the moment, that changes nothing as regards this forum.
However, there are some things being discussed at the moment between Adam and myself as well as some other members of this forum. I'm not going to say anything more until I know where we stand with things. Suffice to say there are plans underway which may come to something, they may not.
In the meantime, if someone posts here asking for a grave photograph, feel free to send them a PM and email it to them. This is a war memorial forum, not a war graves forum. |

Folks
We've got another thread on the British War Memorial Project here:
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2367
We'll have to be careful to keep this thread on-topic and other discussions on the now defunct BWMP should be on the other thread.
Regards
Adam |
