Is it me, or is it quite unusual to have a memorial to those who are interred in a cemetery? Usually it is a town, village or parish. Nothing like this in Dumfries and Galloway I think.

Nothing like this in the whole of Scotland I don't think.
Very unusual and very unique. _________________

I was actually in two minds whether to post the photos or not as the dates don't really fall into the dates of the wars - except for a few.
I don't know yet if any of the men mentioned on the memorial have their own CWGC/Family stones in the Cemetery but no doubt I will - eventually!
I didn't realise either that New Monkland Cemetery is made up of 3 separate Cemeteries - Ryden Mains, Landward and The Joint - how strange a name is 'The Joint' for a Cemetery?? Then there's the attached Churchyard and another section with stones brought from Chapel Street Churchyard in Airdrie town centre (now redeveloped).
It goes on for miles and I'm having the time of my life wandering through all this 'uncharted territory'
I've just remembered about a British Legion grave-site in Old Monkland Cemetery - I'll have another look as I think it might be the same sort of thing but not as grand.

There's one of these for members of the South African War Veterans Association in Aberdeen. It's been discussed somewhere on the forum, possibly in the queries section.
I've got photos of this one on my PC somewhere but hadn't got round to posting them yet. I'm also in two minds as to whether it should actually be in the "civic" section or possibly in the "others". What does everyone else think? |

Well I posted a British Legion memorial under 'others' on the grounds that the men were already commemorated on a civic memorial, but if they're not on a civic memorial, then that's where I would put it.

I don’t think this is a civic memorial since it’s for ex-servicemen but where are Glenmavis men commemorated – Airdrie?
