FREEMASONS UNVEIL CENOTAPH AT ARBROATH

A monumental cenotaph, erected in the Western Cemetery of Arbroath in memory of Freemasons belonging to Arbroath who fell in the war, was yesterday unveiled by Brother Arthur James Ramsay, Provincial Grand Master of Forfarshire.
The gathering at the cemetery included a large representation of Masonic brethren from the Provincial Grand Lodge, and also from Royal Arch Chapters, and from sister and daughter lodges in the Province. The brethren, headed by the Arbroath Instrumental Band, marched in processional order from Panmure Masonic Hall to the cemetery, where a service was conducted by Brother J. S. Cuthill, B.D., Hon. Chaplain, St Thomas Lodge (No. 10), and P.P.G. Senior Grand Chaplain. Brother ex-Bailie D. T. Wilson, President of the Past Masters' Association, introduced Brother Ramsay, and after the unveiling an oration was given by Brother Geo. Hitchcock, B.D., Hon. Chaplain, Lodge St Vigean (No. 101.) Members of Rosemary Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, led the praise.
The cenotaph, which is wholly emblematic of Freemasonry, is of fine Dumfries grey granite, and occupies a prominent place in the cemetery, close by the Allan Fraser Mausoleum.

Memorials of War Heroes:

The aftermath of war continues to be seen in many ways , and during the year the number of memorials to those who gave their life in the great conflict have been numerous .

On 10th April (1921 ) a beautiful CENOTAPH erected in the Western Cemetery to the Memory of Masonic Brethern who laid down their lives was unveiled at a most impressive ceremony at which all the local lodges and many in the district were represented , by the Provincial Grand Master of Forfarshire , Bro Arthur James Ramsay .
