Scotsman Newspapers article about the sinking of the Vanguard:

http://heritage.scotsman.com/diagrams.cfm?cid=3&id=747592006

[Edit :Note 25/11/2008 - It tried this link but it didn't work]

I came across it whilst I was trying to find an online copy of the front page story from the Press & Journal the other day about a 90th Anniversary service on Hoy for the Vanguard which took place earlier this week.

According to this website

http://www.rbls-kirkwall.org.uk/memorials/Flo/HMSVanguard.doc

the 845 men lost on the Vanguard included two Australian stokers from H.M.A.S. Sydney in her cells and an observer from the Japanese Navy, a Commander Ito.

Commander Ito was actually named Kyosuke Eto and you can find out more about him here:

http://www.gwpda.org/naval/cmdreto.htm

From the same website there is a list of casualties & survivors supplied by Jonathan Saunders
