Can't thank you enough, that's brilliant, and it's strange but I've researched the Brown's of Polbeth Farm (just up the road from me) and extensively the Sneddons who connect into several of my family lines and I have these laddies, but not where they ended up. Sure that there will be more in the local newspaper archive now that I've more of a clue.

Possibly this man with the surname incorrectly reported, or recorded differently by the army?
(The Scotsman 17th July 1915)
"Private Connolly, 10th Royal Scots (cyclists), whose home is at Stoneyburn, has been killed in France. He was a Territorial in West Calder Company, and volunteered for foreign service. Along with another 24 cyclists, under Captain Wolfe, he was accepted, and sent to France."

A lovely surprise to come home to tonight another three of my list, that's seven in just two days!! Now why didn't you tell me long ago to post the ones I'm struggling with!! LOL.

I cannot find him in the war returns, so can't explain the difference in death dates.

I've tracked some of the other missing using the 1911 census, but still can't positively identify them. Robert Blair and William Grandison lived next door to each other in the Harburn Rows, but again doesn't prove that they are the two on the memorial - got blisters from the digging, but you know from the Blacks of Breich Water that I'm stubborn!!

Thomas B. Gowans Merchant Navy: No Service Return Death listed in Scotlands People, Nothing on the CWGC Debt of Honour Register, nothing on Ancestry nor in the National Archives.
West Calder Cemetery:
LMO Robert R Gowans died 10th March 1976 aged 85 years. also his wives Annie Stevens died 25th June 1923 (aged 2. Jessie Bulloch died 18th Jan 1956 (aged 61). And their sons James died in infancy 1927 and Thomas lost at sea 1940.

Hello Ken, Paul & Derek,
You're quite right Ken, well done, I got his birth certificate and he's recorded as Thomas Bulloch he was born 1922 in West Calder and his parents married in 1926.
Another one done. This is brilliant. Only two more to find on the WW2 panel of the memorial.
Thanks to you, Paul and Derek for all your help, it's appreciated. 248 names on the memorial now only 17 left to find. William Grandison is now of the list as I found him today, and George Hardie whilst still on the list as I can't find a service entry but I've found him. His brother John is also on the memorial.
