Stirling Observer 9 February 1918

IN MEMORIUM
BRADIE - In loving memory of Private John F Bradie, No S/8750, 2nd Black Watch, missing since 21st January 1916, now presumed killed.
Duty called, and he was there
To do his bit and take his share
His heart was good, his spirit brave,
His resting place a soldier’s grave.
He little thought his time was short
In this world to remain,
Nor thought, when from his home he went,
He never would return again.
A loving son, so true and kind,
He proved to be in heart and mind;
God took him home, it was His will;
Forget him - no, we never will
Could I, his mother, have clasped his hand,
The son I loved so well,
Or kissed his brow when death was nigh,
And whisper, John, farewell.
The Lord in mercy called him home
Out of lingering pain,
But, oh, the joy to meet again
When Christ shall clasp the broken chain.
- Inserted by his Parents, Mr and Mrs M. Bradie, Dunblane, late of Saltcoats
