"SALTCOATS

Official intimation has been received in Saltcoats of the death of Pte. William Watt, 1st Gordon Highlanders, which took place in hospital in France from wounds received in action. In a letter to his sister, Mrs Ritchie, the Braes, Saltcoats, the matron of the hospital states that Pte Watt had been wounded in the leg by shrapnel and was suffering little pain, but the leg was poisoned and he passed suddenly away. Before enlisting in the Gordon Highlanders Pte Watt was employed in the Nobels Factory, cordite department. He was 25 years of age, and had been a year at the front"
