Glendevon is described as a parish in south Perthshire with a small scattered community bounded by the Ochil Hills.
Glendevon Parish Church is linked with Dollar and Muckhart which are both in Clackmannanshire.

This one proved a bit of a puzzle, and to some degree still does.
From the 'Golden Book' the fallen of Glendevon are listed as;

CRAM, JOHN, PTE., CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
M'PHERSON, WILLIAM, PTE., KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS
RUSSELL, WALTER N., 2ND LIEUT., ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS
SINCLAIR, WILLIAM, PTE., SCOTTISH HORSE

After mulling over the Roll of Honour I saw that there were four 'crowns' beside a particular name viz;

SERG. WILLIAM SINCLAIR, BLACK WATCH
PRIVATE JOHN CRAM, CANADIANS
LIEUT. WALTER N. RUSSELL, ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS
PRIVATE JOHN MCPHERSON, HIGHLAND CYCLIST BATTALION

I believe this was meant to signify those who died?

Walter Russell is a stick-on (there is also a personal tribute to him in the church which I will post later)

Name: RUSSELL, WALTER MCOL (it is NICOLL!)
Initials: W M
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Second Lieutenant
Regiment/Service: Royal Scots Fusiliers
Unit Text: 9th Bn. attd. 1st Bn.
Age: 25
Date of Death: 26/08/1916
Additional information: Son of Walter N. and Elizabeth Russell, of School House, Glendevon, Dollar, Clackmannanshire. Born at Glendevon. M.A., B.D., St. Andrew's University. He took his commission instead of joining the Ministry of the Church of Scotland.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Plot 2. Row B. Grave 71.
Cemetery: CORBIE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION

I believe John Cram is

Name: CRAM, JOHN MITCHELL
Initials: J M
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Second Lieutenant
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force
Unit Text: 43rd Wing
Age: 24
Date of Death: 26/08/1918
Additional information: Son of John Mitchell Cram and Jessie Baillie Cram, of Glen Devon, Dollar, Scotland; husband of Mida Marguerite Cram, of 2064, Cameron St., Regina, Sask.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Sec. 19. Lot 104.
Cemetery: OTTAWA (BEECHWOOD) CEMETERY

I think William Sinclair is
Surname SINCLAIR
Firstname William
Service Number 17896
Date Death 17/10/1916
Decoration
Place of birth Glenvenon Perth - should be Glendevon?
Other 7/8th Bn.
SNWM roll THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS
Rank L/Sgt
Theatre of death F.& F.

I could find no John McPherson linked to the area but there is a William McPherson (name given in Golden Book) opposite on the left hand column, who may be
Name: McPHERSON
Initials: W A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
Unit Text: 1st/7th Bn.
Age: 20
Date of Death: 28/07/1918
Service No: 350503
Additional information: Son of William and Margaret McPherson, of Frandy, Glendevon. Dollar, Clackmannanshire.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Q. III. O. 8.
Cemetery: ST. SEVER CEMETERY EXTENSION, ROUEN

I know its all a mix and match but how often have we found these problems when doing the research bit!! I think, unless proven otherwise, this is going to be as close as it gets.

I note that most have given their address as Glendevon, Dollar, Clackmannanshire. It will be interseting to see if they are on the Dollar War Memorial - and how listed.

Mark,

The CWGC should be informed of all their scanning errors so that they can be corrected for future generations.
I'm working my way through "my boys" listed with the CWGC and I'd say that 5% have errors so far.
This has only happened since the CWGC records were digitised.

Is there a Roll of Honour or book dedicated to Dollar Academy?

Derek

I agree about the corrections but will have to put that to one side for the moment as there is so much going on.

Yes, Dollar Academy have a war memorial. One of the men listed for WW2 at Blairgowrie is William Norman Taylor, Capt. 9th Gurkhas he was killed during an attack at Chang Pang on Singapore Island.
I got a photo of him from Dollar Academy when he was in the rugby team.
The archivist was most helpful.
In fact I should maybe direct them to the forum and arrange for a photo for us! - or me when I'm next down Confused .

Well spotted. Crowns rather than crosses may have been chosen because of this verse from the Bible

Revelation 2:10

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer...be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
