There is a memorial in York minster to women who lost their lives in two world wars. Initially I thought that this should not be included on our forum but I think I saw a brief scene in Ian Hyslop's Not Forgotten TV sceries and there appear to be cabinets containing panels, one of which contains a memorial to the Scottish Women's Hospitals, so I think it should go on to the list.

Pure speculation this, but there might be a memorial associated with the former Royal Caledonian Schools in Bushey Hertfordshire. The following is extracted from a reply to a letter in the Sunday Post datee 13 Jan 2008.

"In 1808 the Highland Society of London launched an appeal to raise funds for an asylum to house and educate young Scots orphaned by the Napoleonic Wars, many of whom were roaming the streets of London. Known as the Caledonian Asylum, it was renamed the Royal Caledonian Schools in 1852. It moved from central London to Bushey in 1903. In 1996 the premises were sold and the proceeds used to provide an educational trust which helps the children of Scots in the armed forces or the children of poor Scots in the London area."

I could imagine that there might be several memorials in such an organisation. I have tracked down their website to http://www.rcst.org.uk/ and will drop them a line to see if they have anything of interest.

Just noting it here in case I get run over by a bus (proverbial or otherwise) and to prevent duplication.

Just posting a picture of the Cairn erected in memory of the 192 soldiers of the 9th (Glasgow Highlanders) HLI killed whilst trying to take the wood on 14-15th July 1916

It looks like there may be another memorial in England. I found a reference to a Royal Scots Fusiliers Memorial Window in Catterick

In October 1933 the 2nd Bn RSF presented a stained glass window to the newly built St. Aidan's Garrison Church in Catterick. It was built in 1929 as a Church of Scotland for the garrison and is still there.

I will add it to the main list.

I also came across an internet page that lists memorials in the St Andrew's Garrison Church in Aldershot. It looks like there are a few memorials which we could post in this section in the church. Does anyone know anyone in Aldershot who could have a look for us?
