I found this today so haven't had a good look at it. It's aims seem to be broadly similar to our own but is a webiste rather than a forum. I also notice it is a registered charity and has lottery funding.

I'll have a better look later.

I've just e-mailed them asking them to add us to their links page.

Very interesting. Am I mistaken or are they showing the Rhyinie & Kearn War Memorial, Aberdeenshire on their 'About War Memorials' page Shocked
Its an excellent resource - I hesistated about suggesting a snippet of press coverage for 'ours' but they've been on BBC news/official launches etc!
What about the lottery funding, could we go down that route to assist with research generally?
Still awaiting David's news of developments - will your 'baby' become a monster?
Seriously what are everyones thoughts on this - are we on the right track anyway?

It looks very like it. They're getting their North-Easts mixed up I think.

As to the other points. There's obviously been a precedence set by this project for funding from the Lottery however that has entailed charitable status and that means committees, meetings, funds etc and right now I don't think we are heading in that direction.
It may be worth copying some things from their website though

The first is what there aims are:

WHAT RECORDS WILL WE HOLD?

The Project information will include:-

Details known of each Memorial (surviving or not - and including the sources of information which have been used).

Location of the Memorial (both originally and at the present time) with grid references where available.

Photographs (both those taken when the memorial was built/dedicated and subsequently).

A listing of the names found on the Memorials with any details of regiments etc that are shown.

Any additional information arising as a result of local research - such as into details of local casualties.

all included on a searchable Index of War Memorials to be found in the North East, with links to Districts and Counties, and any other relevant information.

That could be this forum. This next bit is where it differs though:

HOW CAN THE INFORMATION BE ACCESSED?

The Project is to be made available to interested parties through;

A Website, including all the information gathered.

Exhibitions and talks about War Memorials.

Workshops.

Drop-in Library Sessions.

Publicity of the aims, objectives and links to the archive.

The archive material itself, supported by research guidance.

Education packs for both Primary and Secondary Schools.

"Walking for Health and History" packs.

That is a whole different ball game and something we are not aiming for on the forum. That's not to say that the forum wont evolve into something
more in the future but it's early days yet.

Regards

Adam
