"Mrs Anderson, residing in Nethertown Street, Dunfermline, has received official word that her husband, Private John Anderson, Black Watch, who had previously been reported missing, had been killed at La Bassee. Anderson was a miner to trade, and was 29 years of age."

Private Peter Izatt Died 20-09-1916 during WW1.

He was in the Black Watch and was Born in Dunfermline

His name is on a memorial plaque in Inveresk, Musselburgh and I am trying to find out the name of his parents.

Can you help? Many Thanks ruth

ps A book is to be published this year with all the WW1 names in it and I would like to dind out what his connection was with Musselburgh if possible. There was a family with this name in the town and I suspect that he was maybe an uncle??

"Private Alfred Robertson, 1/7th Black Watch, son of Mr John Robertson, retired power-loom tenter, 15 Reid Street, has been officially reported killed in action. Private Robertson, whose father was a colour-sergeant in the old Volunteers, has three brothers on active service - Private John Robertson, a reservist in the 2nd Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, who was seriously wounded on 9th November: Corporal Arrol Robertson, who is attached to the Ambulance section ofthe Canadian Expeditionary Force; and Private James Robertson, Royal Scots, who enlisted at the outbreak of the war."

Headstone schedules record Mrs E. Leitch, Broomfield Drive, Dunfermline and that the stone is inscribed "Arg. & Suth'd Highrs. and 1st Eastern Rifles S.A." - photograph of this would be interesting.

Backpay of £4 17s 7d was sent to his father and his mother received the £3 War Gratuity. (Death was recorded through 6 Casualty Clearing Station, France.)

The Stirling Observer, Saturday, 14th August, 1916 (page 8 ).
"AFTER FIGHTING IN SOUTH AFRICA Former Stirling Teacher Returns Home To Join The Forces In France.
Lance-Corporal (sic) James G. Leitch, who was a teacher in the Territorial School, Stirling, three years ago, returned to the City of the Rock last week to look up old friends after an adventurous time in South Africa, and in pursuance of a determination to transfer his warfare against the Germans from the Dark Continent to France. Mr Leitch left Stirling in March, 1912, intending to follow the teaching profession in South Africa, but in October, 1914, De Wet's rebellion broke out in the Orange Free State, and the erstwhile Stirling teacher joined Botha's Army and took part in rounding up the rebels. He followed up this by going through the successful campaign against the Germans in German South-West Africa, serving with the First Eastern Rifles in the Central Force under General Mackenzie. That force has now been demobilised, and Corporal Leitch, with his appetite whetted for further action against the Germans, has returned home to Dunfermline for a short holiday before rejoining the colours for the bigger issues in France."

(Lance-Corporal rank will be with his South African service.)

The Daily Record and Mail, Wednesday, 20th September, 1916 (page 4).
"Lance-Corporal (sic) James G. Leitch, Argylls, who has been killed in action, was formerly a teacher in Stirling, leaving four years ago to take up a position in Cape Colony. On the outbreak of war he joined the forces under General Botha, and served until the end of the campaign in May, 1915. He then returned to Dunfermline and enlisted in the Argylls. He was 23 (sic) years of age."

Born 1883 at Borgue, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of William and Margaret Lammie (Wilson) Gordon of Palnackie, Buittle.
Husband of Euphemia Morgan (Sneddon) Gordon of Victoria Street, Dunfermline, Fife who he married in 1909 in Dunfermline.
Died on service on 5 December 1918 and buried in Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.

Can anyone help with extra info. I plan to visit a Gordon Highlander buried there so as there are only 4 buried I thought have a wee look they were all men of 15th Scottish Divison. They died between 27 Oct 1918 and 7th Nov 1918.
James Drysdale Watt 9th Royal Scots & John Anderson Black 8th Seaforth Highlanders. What are the chances...
Are they on the local memorial I can't see the names as the photos are gone.
