5 Plaques were raised within the recruiting area of the Seaforth Highlanders after the Great War. One in Caithness at Wick, one in Sutherland at Dornoch, one in Ross-shire in Tain, one in Moray at Elgin and one in Fort George.

The Seaforths also erected a Celtic Cross at Fampoux in France.

I have photos of the Dornoch and Tain plaques:

Dornoch

Seaforth Highlanders Great War Memorial Plaque, Dornoch
Location: On Front of Sheriff Courthouse, Dornoch
OS Ref: NH 797 896

Tain

Seaforth Highlanders Great War Memorial Plaque, Tain
Location: Above a book shop on High Street, Tain
OS Ref: NH 780 821

Hopefully others have photos of the other three plaques.

Adam

Hello Adam,
I don't know about the book shop in Tain but on the 21st April 2007, the Seaforth memorial was on the front of the tolbooth on the High Street in Tain

It makes a nice grouping with the Mercat Cross and the Lion Rampant plaque but I'm sorry about the rubbish bin as it was the Tain Mussel Festival when we were there and the High Street was closed to traffic and a street party was on!!

Richard

In fact, if you compare the brick work on your photo with mine, I think that it's always been on the tolbooth.
Is the one in Dornoch over the book shop?

You're right. It's the same place. I took mine a couple of years ago and my memory must have been playing tricks when I posted here. I don't remember it being so low. I'm pretty sure there's a bookshop just out of shot on the left of your photograph though.

The one in Dornoch is definitely on the wall of the courthouse and not the bookshop. I think the old drill hall may have been on the same block.

Another copy of this memorial is in St Stephen's Church, Leicester

Are there possibly more of these outside the Seaforth Highlanders recruiting area?
