Brechin - Angus District
UKNIWM Ref no. 5695

The Brechin war memorial is a tall sandstone centotaph with the commemoration and names of the dead of WWI in bronze tablets set on the faces. The wall behind has been elevated to take the bronze panel commemorating the dead of WWII. The memorial stands on a raised plinth which is surrounded by a wall and is approached by a wide stairway.
The monument stands in the Victoria Park beside the bowling green and bandstand.
Sorry for the quality of the photographs. I will update when I can or perhaps someone can post a better pic?

Mark

Perhaps Harry Sprunt was returned home for burial and that is why he is not on the database?
If that's the case was his body returned to the U.S.A. or Brechin?

Cheers

I have pictures of these soldiers family graves from Brechin, I'm just a bit behind adding them to the War graves forum Confused
Corporal Dear's address probably should be "Kinnaird Place"?

Henry M. Sprunt

William Dear

There's an interesting biography about Brechin based related footballers at the Brechin City FC website. However there's no mention of Sprunt.

My other half was the librarian at Brechin Library until about 9 years ago. There was a book of rememberance in the library which was then on public display and was turned daily to show the roll of honour.

Not sure if it's still there, but would be worth a look for anyone interested.
