I found this link whilst googling Kinghom Quay. It is from the Channel 4 'Lost Generation' site and lists 536 Memorials awaiting verification.
Obviously some outwith Scotland but it may be of interest having a look through for any in our particular areas.

Quick glance at the link shows High Blantyre, which someone has helpfully listed as being in England.... |

I previously posted this link in the links section. When the site was first created in conjunction with the Lost Generation TV program, it was strongly supported by Channel4 and was a great way to find the name of memorials that an individual appeared on, also a list of all names on the memorial. Info was incomplete but there is a part of the site for submitting updates.
To my knowledge, none of the updates have been implemented (including a few of mine). Updates are supposed to take around one week. Kingholm Quay for example was submitted on 12th December 2005 and has still not been added to the database 16 months later. Regrettably, what promised to be an excellent resource seems to be failing (I guess) from lack of resource. I have had a letter published in a family history magazine last summer and received assurances that it would be sorted 'within weeks' and obviously that hasn't happened.
I mean no criticism of the site or the people, I am sure that it is a matter of resources (i.e. money).
When I was using the site a year ago most (80% plus) of the memorials I looked at in England were complete. But here in Dumfries and Galloway, almost all memorials have no list of names and so the main advantage of the site is lost.
I shall just keep my fingers crossed that all turns out well in the end for this site and UKNIWM. |
