Inverarity - Angus District (Forfar Landward)

The Inverarity war memorial is a stylised celtic cross with wheel-head set on a tapering pedestal which rests on a square plinth. The names of the dead are carved on smooth tablets set into the face of the pedestal. The monument stands in the kirkyard.

He is listed on the Kinnell memorial. There is also a brief biography in the Arbroath RoH where he is described as a ploughman in the district before the war like his father.

Recently the subject of the Craigie column query was a photo that turned out to be WW2 casualty Frank Brown of the 2nd Black Watch. It was with his cousin (?) John Soutar Brown also of the 2nd Btn. Black Watch.

Family members who identified his military portrait said he died as a result of the ship he was on, whilst injured and being evacuated from Italy, being sunk off of North Africa. He was originally from Cotton of Ovenstone by Kirkbuddo near Forfar.
