I was back having another go on this today.

I was using Multimap and have supplied OS numbers and a link to maps with exactly where the memorials are (circled red). These appear for the Blairgowrie & Rattray and Monzievaird & Strowan Memorials.

As you will see dependant on where the memorials are located (within towns or more rural) maps can be zoomed in or out as required.

I typed into multimap roughly the area I wanted. You then point and click where the memorial is and where you wish it circled the map zooms in and the circles not where you want it! But if you go down to map information and click on the web address link - Hey Presto! It shows the map and the memorial location circled Very Happy .

It is a little trial and error getting the map area as you want it shown (i.e closer shot or further out) but, hey, I managed it.

Just for info. you may or may not want to progress your threads with this.

I hope the former post makes some sense.
I have put a link on for the Alyth War Memorial and it worked out ok again - so I think it is actually pretty handy.
Have a go and let us know what you think yourselves.

I have OS maps of my local area and use them, but if I photograph a memorial 'out of area' I certainly don't buy one - just use multimap as described. Another use is if you want to check the OS Map Ref as held by UKNIWM

Having used the Ordnance Survey website to find locations for all my postings to date, (http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/) I must say that I have been impressed with Mark's use of Multi-map on his postings.
Perhaps we need to reach a consensus on this and post location links on each memorial thread as I find that I really do like to know where I'm looking at when reading a thread?
Having previously used the Ordnance Survey, Multimap links do look easier to utilise here.
Any thoughts?

I've discovered STREETMAP.CO.UK today and it seems to be by far the easiest mapping source to use on our links.

I used to use streetmap but found it too annoying so I changed to Multimap. With multimap you get the OS Map Ref on the same page but with streetmap you have to convert it in a second window. With multimap I use the old site (not the new one) because that way you get a genuine OS map and not a street map. Having a link is fine as far as it goes but how many of us have computers with us and internet access when we go out to look at memorials? With an OS Map Ref, you can find it on a paper map, on streetmap site, on multimap site or any other mapping site.

I mentioned elsewhere that my multimap links take me to West Yorkshire now Sad .

I was pottering about with Streetmap there and it looks quite easy.

I use both 'Livesearch Maps' and 'Multimap'.

I love playing around on Livesearch anyway and when I find what I'm looking for, I revert to Multimap for the NS thingys. (That's the technical term for something) Laughing

The Ordnance Survey have changed their search facility and it seems that you have to subscribe to use their website Sad

The Get-a-map facility rather than Getamap is still there. Click on the link under the orange bar

Thanks

The above link still appears to work.
