OS Map Ref: NT 270 730
Believed to be one of a number of listed (on UKNIWM) but not described memorials to Royal Scots in St Giles Cathedral. I believe this to be one of:-
UKNIWM 8797, 8798, 8799, 8800, 8801, 8802, 8803, 8804, 8805 or 8806

The sculptor Charles Pilkington D'or Jackson's business papers are lodged in the National Library, Edinburgh, Accesssion Number 7445. In Box 1, File 40 there is some correspondance regarding Jackson's work on the memorial.
The panel was designed by architect F.C. Mears and is of green Egyptian marble. According to a press release prepared for the unveiling on 25/6/1921 the female figure represents 'Honour' standing at the doorway of an early Greek tomb flanked by men in Western Front and Gallipoli kit. One part also describes the regiment as the 'Queen's Edinburgh Rifles'. |

The Queen's Edinburgh Rifles was a large rifle volunteer unit which split into two territorial battalions - the 4th and 5th bns, when the TF was formed in 1908.
