I'm afraid that's unlikely... in France...
Never mind, maybe I'll find something next time I'm over in Scotland...
Thanks anyway.

Re Private John Lough.
I have just uncovered his details. His place of birth was given as Stirling when in fact he was born in County Londonderry, N.I. to William Lough and Mary Gallagher. These were the names of his parents given on his marriage certificate when he married my grandmother in Glasgow in 1912.
He probably gave birthplace as Stirling when he signed up.
Details were given in the Census of Ireland 1901.

This is WMR 69457, to which I have added the names, the reference to this report and the reference to the unveiling, and corrected the spelling of the unveiler's name this morning.

All as a result of 'Tanyagar's' comment about 'a street near you' yesterday, drawing my attention to this memorial.

David McMeekin is also on the Stirling WM as he and his wife and child lived in Broad Street. His father lived in East Plean (I haven't looked into his family yet but his name on the memorial is D McMeekin JR which I'm guessing means junior). According to the Stirling Observer of 19/12/1916, he had originally joined the A&SH but transferred to RSF. He had been employed at Millhall Colliery. There is a photograph of him.
