Many servicemen served in the UK. If he was not fit enough he could still serve in the forces but not be deployed overseas.
The Morayshire Roll of Honour has a substantial section devoted to those who served on the Home Front.

Yes i understand that. What i meant was if the men never went overseas into a war theatre were they not entitled to a medal?

Just gave myself a crash course in Medal Entitlement
Recipients had to leave home shore (Service in India) or enter a theatre of war before they were entitled to a war medal.
Makes sense if you cant find an Medal Index card for a casualty on a war memorial

There are two Beith lads mentioned on the Stirling War Memorial but they don't seem to be on the Beith one - perhaps they didn't live long enough in the town to be recorded there. I thought you might like to know about them anyway. (My husband was born in Beith, hence my interest)

Thank for that Sandra. I'll add them to the "not on the memorial" list I have. Like most of the village memorials Ive done over the years they all have men missing for one reason or another. At least in those two cases they are commemorated at home on another village plaque.
