I don't know if anyone else has noticed but you cannot use the forum search facility to search for VC (or GC), you can however search for e.g. DCM. Presumably the search word needs to be at least 3 letters long. Quite possibly nothing can be done about this but I mention it in case there is a fix or workaround. It would be nice to be able to search (for example) for all VC entries.

That's very annoying. We'll have to type them out in full then unless something can be done about it.

I will edit VC / GC entries etc where I come across them

Spoons

If you search using 'Victoria and Cross' you should get a few VC posts.

that's great, thanks - I will try and remember to put 'Victoria Cross' or 'George Cross' for any future posts where relevant. Only needs to be in full once in each post of course

This thread has always stuck in my mind but recent posts on the SWGP forum made me have another think about it.

Each time you post it gives you the chance to put in a title. Apart from the first post in a thread you don't need to have one so we could use a word like 'Vicky' in the title of the post. For GC we could use 'Georgie' If you are wondering why I have picked these words it is because they are unlikely to appear in any other posts. If we use Victoria any mention of Victoria in CWGC entries or names will be picked up as well.

Try it yourself since I've just used it for my previous post using Vikki

We could apply this for all posts about VCs and GCs on both forums to make them easy to find.

Cheers

Adam

Perhaps it is just me, but I feel that some might take this to be a little disrespectful.

I don't have anything better to offer however. Victoria would be a pretty unique word but george would turn up all over the place unless you omitted the space i.e. 'georgemedal'.

Yes, I thought that too and I forgot when I was typing up the post because I was in a hurry. It crossed my mind that it could go in brackets like this '(Search keyword: Vicky)' That way it's hopefully obvious it doesn't relate to the person but to the forum.

The point of using a word like that was so it wouldn't be picked up by another thread and would be easy to remember. Also by putting it in the post title rather than the post itself it's not so obvious.

However I like the idea of using the one word 'VictoriaCross' or 'GeorgeCross' etc.

I've tried it and it works just as well.

Cheers

Alternatively, type VictoriaCross into any post which relates to a Victoria Cross being awarded and then use the Font Color option to make the text white.

This of course can apply to any post and any subject you wish to type a keyword into.
