Adam,
Re Bessie Thomson - you can find a portrait photo, headstone photo and some other details on my Sons of Galloway site; check out the Stewartry Roll of Honour's 'Those who served' page.

Many thanks for the link and confirmng it is the same peson. The CWGC database does not list her Mention in Despatches which is a shame. Do you have any idea why she would have been awarded a MiD?
Regards

Adam,
I searched my computer files for two hours last night but with no joy. For whatever reason, I have it in my head that it was for her dedication to duty under enemy fire. However, it will just have to stay as supposition at the moment until I can find my source (almost certainly a local newspaper). If/when I do stumble across anything, I will let you know.

Please excuse this post for a couple of days, after which I will delete it.
Someone who came to my Sons of Galloway site via this thread tried to get in touch with me using the contact form on my site just before noon today (7th May). For whatever reason, the message did not arrive properly. If you would like to try again please do so. Alternatively, send me a PM through this forum.
Best wishes,
