The Glasgow Herald, Wednesday, 23rd May, 1917.
"Deaths on Service.
BROWN.- Died, on 23rd April, from wounds received in action on that day, No 292597 Private D. W. McW. Brown, Black Watch, aged 21 years and 1 month, second son of Mr and Mrs John Brown, Grange School House, Kirkcowan."

Some "debate" on the CWGC grave registration docs as to whether the date of death was the 23rd or the 25th of April - authorities settled on the 25th. Above newspaper ad says what it says.
Alternative family address (from CWGC):- "Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown, of Romes Beoch, Shawhead, Dumfries."
No NR/NK address recorded on Headstone schedules.
