A little more on Robert Hamilton from the Wigtownshire Free Press (9/7/1942): Mr and Mrs Robert Hamilton, Church Street, Kirkcowan, have received official information that their son, Robert, has been missing since the beginning of June. "Bobbie" as he was known by all in the district joined the Army in March 1941 since when he has served as a gunner in the Royal Artillery and for about a year has been on service in the Middle East. Previous to joining up he was employed by Wigtown County Council. His younger brother is serving in the Royal Navy.
