UKNIWM Ref: 44435
The memorial is at the beginning of the road leading to the parish church and is beside the village school. OS Map Ref NX 423 514
Not very clear on the photo but the black 'blob' on the front of the memorial is a steel helmet.
Surrounded by cones, it looks like the memorial has just had a 'happy event' but it looks like a new kerb to protect the memorial from vehicles.

Here are some older pics pre traffic cones. The incorporation of the shrapnel helmet into the design is very unusual and it just shows how well these helmets were made as I would have expected it to have rusted through after almost 90 years, even if it was painted regularly. Either that or its actually a copy of a helmet cast in bronze? Its a beautiful design and one of my favourites.

I am not entirely sure what is going on or has been going on with this memorial but I took a new set of photos the other day.
Apart from now looking very smart, each individual block of stone has been numbered with what seems like yellow crayon so I guess it has either been taken completely apart or is about to (my guess is that it has been apart and put back together).
Also, taking a further look at the steel helmet, I am not sure that it was part of the original design. I can imagine the memorial without it so perhaps someone just thought it would look nice if they put the helmet in the available circle? But then again, maybe not.

Found out what happened here. Earlier this year, inhabitants of Kirkinner woke to find the memorial partially demolished, presumably by a truck trying to turn in the road, but no sign of the truck and no-one owned up to it.
The council have done a great job of repair and it now looks better than before.
Credit where credit's due.
