I don't know!

It's quite a height and although it was a nice sunny day, as usual, the sun wasn't quite in the right position. I intend to go back and see if I can get a better photo and also if there's any note of a scuptor anywhere that I missed before.

I took the sculpture to be symbolic of the crushing of the German Imperial Eagle by the British Empire.

This man listed on the Second World War panel of the memorial was part of the ill-fated commando raid on the Norsk Hydro heavy water factory at Rjukan in Norway. He is also commemorated on the Operation Freshman Memorial at Skitten in Caithness.

I believe that this may be the John Grant listed on this memorial,

Age: 19 Date of Death: 07/08/1915 Cause: Killed in action (Initially reported as missing).
Family Notes: Son of Richard and Mary Grant, of Brucefield, Glensburgh, Falkirk.
Other notes: Private Grant’s Medal Index Card shows him as entering the Gallipoli Theatre of Operations on 13/5/1915; his Index Card also shows him as “Pres dead 7/8/1915.”
Grave/Memorial: Panel 190 to 196. Helles Memorial.

Francis Gallacher Rodger, born 12 September 1901 Leith Midlothian, was the son of William Cochrane Rodger and Isabella Fraser Brand Campbell. David Purves Campbell Rodger, born 8 September 1896 was the son of William Cochrane Rodger and Isabella Fraser Brand Campbell. 1901 census shows him living with his parents and siblings at 8 Tennant Street, Leith. At the time of his death, the family was living at 15 Couper Street, Leith.

Another brother(my grandfather), 1249 Private Thomas Rodger, Royal Scots, was injured in the Gretna Disaster and taken to Fusehill Hospital, Carlisle. Later he was transferred to the Labour Corps and his service record shows many admissions to hospital during the war of WW1 due to “crushed left foot, Gretna Disaster”.

"Captain Gilbert, North Street, Grangemouth, has received intimation that his son, Corporal Edward Gilbert, of the Gordon Highlanders, was killed in action at Ypres on Sunday, 7 March. In one of the desperate charges he was wounded in the abdomen, and succumbed to his injuries in the base hospital in the afternoon. He was called up as a reservist at the outbreak of hostilities, and had been in the fighting line ever since. He was 29 years of age, married, and leaves one child."
