Despite the lack of middle initials on the memorial I can't see who else the inscription refers to.
SDGW - Born Kelvin. Lived Troon. Enlisted Troon. Household Cavalry and Cavalry of the Line (incl. Yeomanry and Imperial Camel Corps).

1901 Census Lanarks., Glasgow, Kelvin:- 80 Park Road, listed R.F. Murray Dewar (14), message boy, born Glasgow, nephew of householder Jane Murray (45), single, born Rothes, Morayshire. A Wm. Murray (4), born Troon, Ayrshire, also described as nephew is another household member.

Pte John Taylor, 5th R.S.F., killed, whose wife resides at Burn Street, Bonhill, was 24 years of age and a native of Campbeltown. He was employed at Troon"

The 1901 Scottish census shows John living with his parents and siblings at Crossleggie, Southend Road, Campbeltown.

The record of soldiers died in the Great War shows John enlisted in Troon.

The register of soldiers effects shows the War Gratuity was paid to John's widow Agnes. John and Agnes were married on 29 January 1915 at 14 Burn Street, Bonhill, Dumbarton. John was in the army and his usual address was Cambusbarron, Stirling

John is also on the Campbeltown Memorial

David Alexander Thom – age 36 – Private (13329) 7th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.
David had been a Railway Fireman at Dumfries where his father was an Engine Driver. He was living in Troon when he enlisted at Ayr. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915. (Source: SDGW and Medal Roll/Card)
Born 1879 in Dumfries. (Source: SNWM and GRoS – Birth Register)
Son of William and Helen Thom of Dumfries.
Husband of Margaret Isabel (Paterson) Thom (later Mrs. Cowan) of 1 Collinan Terrace, Gillis Street, Troon, Ayrshire who he had married in 1901 in Kirkcudbright.

The Glasgow Herald, Thursday, November 8th., 1917. Deaths on Service notice:-
"SMITH.- Killed in action, on 2nd November, 1917, Second Lieutenant James Osborne (sic) Smith, aged 22 years, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Hugh W. Smith, Linnfern, Troon."

James Smith was born at 277 Albert Road, Glasgow, the eldest son of Hugh Wilson Smith, mechanical engineer, and Jane Ramsay Macfarlane. His birth was registered at Tradeston by his father on 1st. February, 1895 (644/13 0082). His middle name is spelt 'Osbourne' in the Register.

He was educated at Glasgow Academy and is commemorated on the Academy's WW1 Roll of Honour. He is also listed on the memorial plaque within Royal Troon Golf Club..
James initially saw service as a Trooper with the Ayrshire Yeomanry.

This man is named as BRINKWORTH, FRED. on the memorial from the former Townhead Church in Dumfries - together with his brother William.

Charles Frederick Brinkworth – age 36 – Private (9346 & 201707) 1/5th (Dumfries and Galloway) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Charles had been employed by the Glasgow and South Western Railway Company at Troon in Ayrshire before he went to Antofagsta in Chile in October 1912 to be an engine driver. He returned to enlist, landing at Liverpool in February 1915. and as Private (20991) joined the 7th KOSB in France in October 1915. He was wounded in May 1916 and when recovered he was sent to Egypt, joining the 1/5th KOSB in April 1917.
