He is recorded by the military as Closs, instead of Close.

"Intimation has been received from the military authorities that Henry Close, who resided at Corsehill, Kilwinning, has been killed in action at the front. He was a Seaforth Highlander. He is the first Kilwinning man to be killed in the war."
